Deltona's housing stock is largely 1970s through 1990s ranch and split-level, and most of it has been re-roofed at least once. What is easy to miss is that a re-roof does not necessarily include the trim. Unless the rot was obvious on the day, the fascia often stayed — which means a house on its second or third covering can still be carrying its original wood at the roof edge, forty-odd years into a climate that never lets it fully dry out.

That board is doing three jobs at once: capping the rafter ends, holding the gutters, and closing the roofline against everything that wants to get into the attic.
