The roofline nobody walks
On a typical Orlando-area lot there is one roof and the homeowner sees all of it from the driveway. Marion County properties are usually not like that. There is the house, and then there is a barn, a workshop, a detached garage, a run-in shed — and each of those has exactly the same soffit and fascia details as the house does.
Nobody inspects them. You look at your house every day. You walk past the barn on the way to something else, and the eave above the door is not in your eyeline. So the pattern we find here, over and over, is a house with sound trim and an outbuilding whose fascia has been soft for three or four years.
By then it is rarely just the board. Water that has been getting behind the trim that long has usually reached the rafter tails, and that is a structural repair rather than a trim repair.
Outbuildings fail differently, not just later
There is a second reason it is worse out there, and it is not only neglect. Most outbuildings have no gutter.
On the house, a working gutter catches the sheet of water coming off the roof edge and takes it away. On a barn with no gutter, that same water falls the full height, hits the ground or the slab, and splashes back up onto the underside of the trim. The fascia is getting wet from below as well as from above, and the soffit takes spray it was never detailed to handle. That is a failure mode the house simply does not have.
It also means the fix sometimes is not trim at all. If a structure is eating its own fascia because of where the water lands, replacing the board without dealing with the water buys you a few years and the same phone call.
Long runs are simpler work
One piece of good news. Soffit and fascia are priced by the linear foot, and what makes that work expensive is complication rather than distance — corners, dormers, returns, gable ends, all the places where a house roofline changes direction.
An outbuilding is usually a long straight run with almost none of that. Sixty feet of uninterrupted barn fascia is genuinely faster work than thirty feet broken up around a house, so the footage on these jobs is rarely as alarming as it sounds.
Where it does get involved is matching. Wood profiles are easy. On older aluminium or vinyl the exact profile may no longer be made, and we would rather tell you that at the quote than surprise you at the end — sometimes the honest answer is doing a whole elevation so it reads as one piece.

Do you do soffit and fascia on barns and outbuildings?
Yes, and around Ocala it is a large share of this work. A detached garage, a workshop or a barn has the same trim details as the house and usually a good deal more of it, in longer uninterrupted runs. Those runs are also the ones nobody inspects, so the damage tends to be further along by the time anyone calls.
Why is the damage always worse on the outbuilding?
Because you look at the house every day and you walk past the barn. Nobody notices a soft fascia board on a structure they only enter to get something out of it. There is also usually no gutter on an outbuilding, so rain sheets straight off the edge and splashes back onto the trim from below — which is a failure mode the house does not have.
There are wasps and birds getting into my eaves. Is that a roofing job?
The gap is. We close the opening and repair the trim it went through, which is the part that stops it recurring. We are not a wildlife removal outfit, so if something is currently living up there it needs to be cleared out first — put a trapper in before us and we will seal it properly behind them. Sealing an active nest in is worse than leaving it open.
The runs on my barn are long. Does that change the price?
It changes it in your favour per foot, usually. Soffit and fascia are priced by the linear foot, and a long straight run with no corners, dormers or returns is faster work than the same footage broken up around a house. The complications cost money, not the length.
Can you match trim on an older building?
Usually. Profile matching on wood is straightforward. On older aluminium and vinyl the exact profile may be discontinued, in which case we will tell you up front whether we can get a close match or whether the honest answer is doing a full elevation so it reads as one piece instead of a patchwork.
How fast can you get to Marion County?
