Soffit and fascia are the trim of the roof edge — and in Florida they fail earlier and more often than almost anywhere else in the country, because our humidity never lets the wood fully dry and our storms drive rain sideways up under the eaves. Here's how the cost actually works, what moves it, and the one scheduling decision that saves more money than any material choice.

What actually drives the cost

Four things set the price of Florida soffit and fascia work, in order of impact:

1. Linear footage. This is per-foot work: contractors measure the run of fascia board and soffit panel involved. A few feet of rot behind a gutter is a small job; a full roofline is a different one. Most of the spread between a few-hundred-dollar repair and a few-thousand-dollar replacement is just footage.
2. What the tear-off reveals. Rot rarely confines itself to what's visible from the ground. Soft fascia often continues past the stained section, and the sub-fascia or rafter tails behind it can be involved. This is the honest reason quotes come after an inspection, not over the phone.
3. Material. Wood is the traditional choice and the highest-maintenance one here — it needs its paint film maintained on a schedule Florida punishes. Aluminum and vinyl cost more per foot installed but won't rot, which in this climate is usually the better lifetime math.
4. Access and roofline complexity. Second-story runs, steep gables, and screen enclosures add labor time; a single-story ranch roofline is the simple case.

The Florida-specific part

Most soffit and fascia damage here traces back to one of three causes, and knowing which one you have matters because two of them will just eat the new material too:

• Blocked soffit vents trap attic heat and moisture, which works on the wood from behind — and cooks your shingles from below while it's at it.
• A failed paint film on original wood trim simply lets Florida humidity do what it does. On homes from the 1970s–1990s, the fascia is often the oldest material on the house — frequently older than the roof covering itself, because reroofs don't automatically include the trim.

Repair is the honest call when damage is limited to a few feet: cut out the bad material, match the profile, seal it. Replacement wins when rot shows up in several places — that's the whole run telling you it's at the same age and exposure, and paying mobilization three years straight to chase it section by section is the expensive way to buy a full replacement anyway.
